check out the oil my cadillac spills...

So it's Friday. The end of a long week, but a good week!

Things here are going pretty well. The volunteering thing was a little sketchy for a while, as it seemed there wasn't a whole lot for me to do right away. And thus I began to feel useless for a short time. But it's all sorted out now, and I will be splitting my time between doing some research in psychiatry, and helping out with the nursing program however I can. There are also TONS of places/people around to approach should I get bored (doubtful), so things are great. I also got a chance to spend some time at the day program here for kids who are mentally disabled, which was really really cool... they are so great! They like having a muzungu around, and ask me lots of questions (in kinyarwanda, but I smile and nod). It's really interesting to see how disabilites are addressed in different countries.

It's been busy! I get up pretty early (we leave the house at 7:30... ok, early for me, anyway), and then it's work, and then there's always something to do at night! Last night it was Elsa's birthday (Elsa is who I live with), so it was happy hour at the Mille Collines (aka Hotel Rwanda), where the live music was entertaining... everything from Bob Marley to Ne-yo... From there, it was another tasty dinner on a really cool loungey-patio, with delicious brochettes (kebabs), and me averting my eyes from the tiny fish-still-with-their-eyes appetizers.

And tonight (as Ludacris suggests via my title), we are going dancing! We're heading to the Cadillac (a local nightclub), so it should be good times... I'm going with a few friends including these two hilarious boys, Muhamed and Hilaire, and I am desperately hoping Hilaire won't dance as he has previously demonstrated "American dancing"... it has to do with disco moves...

Anyway, things here are really really great, and I am loving all the emails and comments you are sending! Keep em coming... it's really great to hear from all of you.

Much love and peace.

Heya Nomes,

Sounds like your volunteering is off to a good start. I'm sure the Cadillac was a lot of fun. I'll have to keep in mind thats you're a fan of the Disco moves the next time I see you at a club :)

Nothing much new here in Burlington, same old for me. Your next blog should include a recount of your trip to a wicked local crag with insane established routes varying from 5.5 up to 5.13. In all likelihood I would be on the next plane, har har.

Again; stay safe, have fun, and keep up the good work on the blog.
